An OpenCart store owner usually wants one thing: the customer pays by card and the order turns “Paid” on its own, so nobody has to reconcile bank statements every morning. Out of the box OpenCart only offers bank transfer and cash on delivery. Card payments come from a separate extension, and the right one depends on which bank or payment provider you already have a contract with.
Below are the payment methods we build our own extensions for, covering OpenCart 2.3, 3.x and 4.x. Each has a free version that accepts payments and updates the order status automatically. We don’t list fees: the bank or provider sets them and they change.

How to add a payment method in OpenCart
The steps are nearly the same for every extension and version:
- In the admin open Extensions → Installer and upload the
.ocmod.zipfile. - On OpenCart 2.3 and 3.x go to Extensions → Modifications and click Refresh. OpenCart 4 doesn’t need this step.
- Open Extensions → Extensions, choose the Payments type, find the extension and click the green install button.
- Click Edit, paste the keys from your bank or provider account, pick the status for paid orders and enable the extension.
- Make a test payment. Most of our extensions have a test mode, so you don’t need real money to check it.
Why an order doesn’t turn “Paid”
Almost always the bank’s payment notification (webhook or callback) never reaches the site. The URL in the provider account may have a typo, the hosting firewall or Cloudflare may block the request, or the site may only work over http. The Pro versions of our extensions have a log that shows whether the request arrived and what the store replied.
What else to install alongside
Accepting payments is only part of the job. Stores usually add receipt fiscalisation via PRRO, which issues the receipt after payment, and a cash-on-delivery fee or prepayment discount to nudge customers to pay upfront.
FAQ
How many payment methods can I enable at once?
As many as you like. OpenCart lists them at checkout, and the order is set by the sort order in each extension’s settings. A typical Ukrainian store runs card payments, cash on delivery and instalments.
Can I accept card payments without a registered business?
No. Banks and payment providers only sign contracts with a sole proprietor or a company.
Do I need a separate extension for fiscal receipts?
Yes. The payment extension processes the payment, and a separate extension issues the PRRO receipt once the order status changes.
