The plugin sends your WooCommerce store’s events to Telegram: new order, status change, failed payment, and low stock. Your manager sees the order seconds after checkout — on their phone, no email, no logging into the admin panel.

It works through your own bot, created via @BotFather: the token is stored encrypted in your database, and messages go straight to Telegram. No middleman services, no subscription — the plugin is completely free, open source.

What the admin gets

Telegram notification settings in WooCommerce
A single settings page: connection, events, and message templates.
Choosing events and statuses for Telegram notifications
Events are toggled separately, and order statuses are ticked individually — only what you need reaches the chat.
Telegram notification delivery log in WooCommerce
The log shows every send attempt with Telegram’s response code — you can see whether a message got through and why not.

How it works, step by step

  1. A customer places an order — on both classic and block checkout.
  2. The order lands in one of the statuses you’ve marked as “new order”.
  3. The plugin assembles a message from your template: order number, contents, total, buyer contacts, payment and delivery method, order note.
  4. The message goes to every chat you’ve specified; each one includes a link that opens the order in the admin panel.
  5. Later, when the status changes to one of the ones you’ve flagged, a short “was → became” message follows.
  6. The outcome of every send is recorded in the log; a failed attempt is retried after 5 minutes.

What’s included

  • New order — announced once, the first time an order reaches a chosen status.
  • Status change — its own list of statuses, so the chat isn’t flooded with noise.
  • Failed payment — a separate notification for orders with a “Failed” status.
  • Low stock — based on the threshold already set in WooCommerce; capped at one alert per product per day, so the chat doesn’t fill up with repeats.
  • Leads from site forms — Contact Form 7 out of the box, plus any plugin that fires the catcode_lead_captured action (for example KeyCRM Form Catcher — the message then includes the lead type, product, and SKU).
  • Multiple chats — a personal chat, group, channel, or a forum-group topic.
  • Custom templates — 20+ tags; a line whose tags are all empty is automatically dropped from the message.
  • Silent notifications, a delivery log, retry via WP-Cron.
  • “Find chat_id” button — the chat ID is looked up right in the admin panel.

Pricing

Free, forever, with no limit on the number of sites. The code is open — GitHub.

Requirements

  • WordPress 6.2+, WooCommerce 6.0+
  • PHP 7.4+
  • Compatible with HPOS (separate order tables) and block checkout
  • Outbound access to api.telegram.org

Under the hood

  • The bot token is encrypted (sodium, with a fallback to an HMAC stream), and shown as “saved” in the form.
  • Messages are sent in HTML mode with link previews disabled; long text is truncated to Telegram’s limit.
  • Tag values are escaped, so buyer data can’t break the message markup.
  • “New order” deduplication runs through order meta — a hook firing twice doesn’t produce a duplicate.
  • It catches both classic checkout and the Store API (blocks), plus status changes from the admin panel or from the payment gateway.

How to install

  1. Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin → choose the archive → “Install Now” → “Activate”.
  2. Create a bot: message @BotFather with the /newbot command and copy the token.
  3. Open WooCommerce → Telegram Notifications and paste the token.
  4. Send the bot any message and click “Find chat_id”.
  5. Paste the ID into the “Notification chats” field and send a test message.
  6. Tick the statuses for each event, adjust templates if needed, and save.

Version history

1.1.0 — 11 August 2026
New event — leads from site forms (Contact Form 7 and the catcode_lead_captured action) with its own message template. Low-stock warnings are now capped at one per product per day. The order link in the log now opens correctly with or without HPOS. A non-intrusive admin notice now appears only after the first message has been delivered, and doesn’t return once dismissed. Two copies of the module (this one and the WordPress.org version) no longer crash the site with a fatal error.
1.0.0 — 20 July 2026
First release. Notifications for new orders, status changes, failed payments, and low stock; custom templates with 20+ tags, multiple chats and forum-group topics, silent mode, delivery log, retry, encrypted bot token. Compatible with HPOS and block checkout, verified on a live store.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any third-party service or subscription?

No. Your own bot sends messages straight to the Telegram API. There's no server of ours between your store and Telegram — we never see the orders or the token.

How much does it cost?

Free. There's no limit on the number of messages, chats, or orders — the only limits are Telegram's own (roughly 30 messages per second per bot).

How do I notify several managers?

Enter several IDs in the "Notification chats" field, one per line. You can mix a personal chat, group, and channel. For a specific topic in a forum group, add the topic number after a colon, e.g. -1001234567890:42.

The bot isn't posting to the group — what do I do?

Add the bot to the group and give it permission to send messages (for a channel, make it an admin). Then send any message in the group and click "Find chat_id": a group ID is always negative.

The message shows <b> tags instead of bold text.

That means the template contains a disallowed or unclosed tag. Telegram only understands <b>, <i>, <u>, <s>, <code>, <pre> and <a href>. Check the template and save it again.

Can I turn off the notification sound?

Yes, enable "Silent notifications" — Telegram will deliver them without a sound alert, though the message still appears in the chat.

What happens if Telegram is unreachable at the moment of the order?

The failed attempt is logged with a response code, and the plugin resends the message. The order itself isn't affected — checkout is never blocked.
